We celebrate the work of René Auberjonois on this week's TrekRanks with the Top 5 Odo Episodes. As a renowned character actor for six decades, his reputation had been built long before he stepped into the weighty shoes of Deep Space Nine's beloved constable. His passing in 2019 was an immeasurable loss for Trek, and on what would have been his 80th birthday (June 1, 2020) we dig deep into our favorite moments and episodes of everyone's favorite changeling.
Host Jim Moorhouse and panelists Hayley Stoddard and Dan Davidson begin the character celebration (the ninth character focused episode in TrekRanks history) by each describing Auberjonois with one word in the Diagnostic Cycle. The group then dives into their unique Prime Directives to focus in on exactly how they narrowed down their picks.
In The Order of Things the hosts unveil their "Five Word Summary and Hashtag" for each of their Top 5 Odo Episodes and also unveil a specific moment from each of their selections to better define how they view the character. Big moments, small moments, shape-shifting moments – they are all here.
With each host's Secondary Systems choices, the picks get even deeper and Jim briefly reviews some of the interesting statistical anomalies that emerged from their selections.
After a quick recap of all the picks in the Regeneration Cycle, each of our guests takes a few moments to highlight a non-Star Trek role from Auberjonois that they found memorable in his career.
The episode concludes with a visit into a Temporal Causality Loop as we flashback to Episode 78 and our discussion of the Top 5 Episodes Where the Ship Is a Character.
